A Culture of Learning

To facilitate the development of substantive skills, the firm provides a robust training and development schedule. Program topics are identified from several sources in order to meet the needs of the attorneys, and include practice group training, practice management skills, business development, and leadership. In addition, the Diversity and Associates Committees in each office sponsor speakers who engage our attorneys and staff in topics ranging from diversity in the workplace to the global economy.

Training begins on day one for the Fall Class with a multi-day “Boot Camp” that includes topics ranging from communicating in the workplace to timekeeping and presentation skills. Importantly, all participants are gathered in one place so they can begin networking across offices.

In addition, professional development at MLA crosses all levels of attorneys. New partner orientation focuses on providing information to assist this group with the skills they need to succeed. All partners receive training at the annual retreat and partners regularly plan, participate and lead training sessions relating to their practice areas.

MLA also provides important training resources through outside vendors, including the Practicing Law Institute, ALI/ABA and National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
