FAQ
- What are the dates of the summer program?
Our 2013 summer program will begin on May 20, 2013 and run through July 19, 2013 in all of our offices. Most summer associates will start work May 20th depending upon exam schedules, moving, etc. 1L summer associates will finish the summer program on July 12, 2013.
- When should I apply?
You can check our Fall Recruiting Calendar to see if we plan to interview at your law school. If we are, please check with your Career Services Office to see how and when you should apply to be considered for an interview. If we will not be interviewing at your law school, please submit your materials to the appropriate Recruiting Manager in each office. If you are a first year law student, please apply after December 1. If you are a second year law student, please apply after August 1. If you are a third year law student, you may apply at any time.
- What is the firm’s policy regarding “splitting” the summer with another firm?
Our split policy is determined on an office by office basis. The Washington, Los Angeles and Denver offices do not allow splits. The Atlanta office is open to second year students splitting their summer; however, they require that you spend the first half (i.e. a minimum of six weeks) with MLA, unless you previously spent your first year summer with us. We feel that critical group building and orientation activities, as well as most of the training and social events, occur during the first six of eight weeks of the summer.
- What is MLA’s policy regarding “splitting” the summer with another MLA office?
This is determined on a case by case basis. Interested students must individually interview with each MLA office.
Summer Associate Spotlight
"MLA fosters a collegial environment where everyone truly cares about helping the associates succeed. Throughout the summer I received real, substantive assignments, and I felt comfortable reaching out to associates and partners alike. I learned a lot working alongside these attorneys who are experts in their field, and I look forward to returning to MLA next summer."
