PROFILE

Marybeth Christiansen counsels and serves as a litigator primarily to businesses in the pharmaceutical, biotech, health care provider and medical supply industries. She focuses her practice in the areas of federal compliance obligations; procurement ; and voluntary disclosures.

An expert in health care law and the defense of professional liability claims, Marybeth has defended healthcare industry clients facing a variety of claims allegedly arising from delayed or incorrect diagnoses and surgical errors. She was chosen to represent a national authority on hemophilia treatment. In addition, her knowledge of professional liability law brought her into the defense of a prominent Philadelphia labor and employment law firm accused of legal malpractice.

Marybeth has been before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court four times to date, once to defend the constitutionality of the Medical Professional Liability Catastrophe Loss Fund surcharge upon health care providers. She also has extensive appellate experience in the federal courts, where she defended the constitutionality of Pennsylvania's Drug Paraphernalia Act.

The co-author of Laws and Regulations Affecting Medical Practice, a text commissioned by the Pennsylvania Medical Society for its members, Marybeth is a former hearing committee chair for the Pennsylvania State Disciplinary Board. She also has served as a Examiner for the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners.
