Atlanta and Washington, DC (May 23, 2002) - The law firms of McKenna & Cuneo L.L.P. and Long Aldridge & Norman LLP today announced that they will merge effective June 1, 2002 to form McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP. The combined firm offers clients access to more areas of expertise and experience, more geographic diversity, and more depth and capacity.

The new firm will have approximately 400 lawyers and public policy advisors with a total staff of 750. The combined firm will have eight offices: Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Brussels.

"For both firms, this merger is really about serving our clients better," said Clay Long, Chairman of Long Aldridge & Norman. "From the Long Aldridge & Norman viewpoint, we can now offer much greater expertise in government contracting, regulatory areas, biotechnology protection, and specialty litigation. The geographical reach of the new firm will be a great benefit to our practice."

Clay Long and Jay Gallagher, current Chairman of McKenna & Cuneo, will share the Chairman role. Jeff Haidet, current President of Long Aldridge & Norman, and Ray Biagini, current Vice Chairman of McKenna & Cuneo, will share the Vice Chairman role. Tom Hall of Long Aldridge & Norman and Tom Papson of McKenna & Cuneo will be Co-Managing Partners of McKenna Long & Aldridge.

"Over the years, we have had many opportunities to provide legal services in the corporate, real estate, finance and transactions areas," said Jay Gallagher. "This merger will allow us to respond to those opportunities and bring greater value to our clients. One specific way is by expanding our biotechnology-oriented intellectual property practice with the addition of patent attorneys who have electrical engineering backgrounds. We also believe our government contracts and regulatory practices will mesh nicely with Long Aldridge's government affairs practice."
