Economic Stimulus Legislation: Moves to Conference Committee

February 11, 2009

This Alert is an update of our recent report on House passage of HR 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. On February 10th, the full Senate, by a vote of 61 to 37, adopted its $838 billion version of the legislation.

The bills though similar in total size (the House version is $819 billion) are significantly different and will need to be reconciled in a Conference to which conferees from both chambers have been appointed. Congressional leaders still hope to have the measure ready for President Obama’s signature before the President’s Day recess begins on February 16th.

Attached is a document comparing the two versions in outline form by program. This report is for informational purposes only. The work of the Conference Committee will yield further changes and modifications to materials attached.

We will continue to update you as events warrant.
