ASAE Issues Guidance on LDA Compliance

January 24, 2008

ASAE has posted new guidance for association professionals attempting to comply with new lobbying disclosure requirements mandated by the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act (HLOGA). The new Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA) requirements for lobbyists, lobbying firms, and companies that employ or retain lobbyists went into effect Jan. 1, but many still have questions about how to assure proper compliance.

This week, ASAE and McKenna Long Aldridge’s Jeff Altman, Esq., posted guidance on ASAE & The Center’s website for associations on how to register themselves and their lobbyists with Congress under HLOGA.  The “Q&A on the New Lobby Reform Guidelines,” can be downloaded here. Additional information may be found at www.asaecenter.org/lobbyingreform.

ASAE also held a full program on Jan. 14 designed to answer questions surrounding the lobbying and ethics reforms. McKenna Long & Aldridge, which facilitated the discussion, helped dispel common misnomers surrounding the new requirements. Due to the popularity of the program, ASAE will offer it again, with timely updates, on March 6 from 9 AM to 12 PM.
