GRAND RAPIDS -- U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra's campaign announced three local television stations pulled a "demonstrably false" attack ad by a Virginia-based conservative group.

Hoekstra, R-Holland, front runner for the Republican Party's gubernatorial nomination, was targeted by Americans for Job Security, which has been running ads this month on WOOD-TV, WOTV and WXSP.

The spots claim, among other things, that Hoekstra "won't sign a pledge not to raise our taxes even more," referring to the Americans for Tax Reform Pledge.

"I received the call this morning that they all made the decision to pull the ads as of Thursday," said Charles Spies, counsel for the Hoekstra campaign, about a conversation he said he had with Fred Corbus, director of sales for WOOD. "He was straightforward and indicated they reviewed the documents provided and accepted our argument."
