MLA welcomes new partner Luis Aguilar, who will focus on corporate governance, public and private offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and other aspects of federal and state securities laws and regulations out of our Atlanta office.
Luis joined the law firm of Alston & Bird in 2003, preceded by serving as general counsel, executive vice president, and corporate secretary of Invesco, a globally recognized money management firm that provides services to employee benefit plans, mutual funds and retirement plans. Luis was named one of Georgia's Super Lawyers in 2004, and the Atlanta Hispanic Businessman of the Year in 1994 by the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Luis participates in many civic and business organizations. In April, he will be appointed chairman of the Latin American Association in Atlanta. He also serves on the board of governors of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and co-chaired the 2002 HNBA Annual Convention. He is director and treasurer of the National Hispanic Bar Foundation (NHBF) and a director of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO). Additionally, he serves as director of the Girl Scouts Council of Northwest Georgia, Inc. and director of the United States Fund for UNICEF Southeast Regional Chapter, and is involved with Leadership Atlanta. Luis is an original member of the Advisory Council of Hemisphere, Inc., the organization established by Georgia's governor to lead the effort for Atlanta to be named the Permanent Secretariat of the Free Trade Area of the Americas.
