Denver Office Receives CLC Special Recognition Award

June 29, 2005

The Denver office recently received the Special Recognition Award from the Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC). The award was presented at last month's CLC annual luncheon, in honor of the firm's special contributions to CLC. MLA has provided the CLC staff with rent-free office space for the last six years. CLC Executive Director Constance Talmage said, "The Colorado Lawyers Committee is very grateful for the extraordinary generosity of McKenna Long and Aldridge, who has given the Colorado Lawyers Committee a wonderful home for six years. Everyone in the firm has made us feel most welcome."

The nonprofit and nonpartisan CLC is a consortium of 43 Denver-area law firms working together on behalf of children, the poor, and other disadvantaged communities. The organization focuses on systemic change through advocacy, negotiation, and litigation, using "all the skills and discipline of the law in the service of others." The individual attorneys who volunteer their time participate in projects in the areas of poverty and public benefits, civil rights, education, immigration, community development, and criminal law. The volunteers work in task forces comprised of attorneys from different law firms who generally meet once a month to study a specific problem and develop solutions.

In addition to providing office space, the lawyers in the Denver office have been active in CLC projects and leadership. Office managing partner Mark Meagher has served on the CLC Board of Directors for several years and was recently succeeded by of counsel John Tatlock. In addition, Mark has participated on the CLC Children's Task Force, and partners Herb Fenster and Lino Lipinsky been involved with the State Finance Task Force.
