Les Girard and Michael McGuinness join MLA Government Affairs Practice

SAN DIEGO (September 9, 2005) - McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP announced today that Leslie (Les) J. Girard, Assistant City Attorney, and Michael R. McGuinness, Chief Deputy Attorney have joined the firm from the Office of the City Attorney, San Diego. At the outset, McGuinness and Girard will concentrate predominately on government related transactional and litigation work. Both will operate their practices from the San Diego office.

Girard gained both litigation and civil advisory experience during his tenure with the Office of the City Attorney. His litigation practice specialized in land use and other complex cases. He returned to civil advisory work in 1994 as Chief Deputy City Attorney for Legislative and Public Affairs. In 1996, he was appointed as Assistant City Attorney for Special Projects. Projects of note include the negotiation and implementation of the City's Ballpark and Redevelopment Project. Girard received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his undergraduate degree from San Diego State University.
In his role with the Office of City Attorney, Michael McGuinness concentrated on civil litigation specifically in the areas of construction, contracts, land use, and various recovery actions. He received his law degree from California Western School of Law and his undergraduate degree from University of Connecticut.
