Former Senior Tax Counsel to U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) Arrives at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP

Washington, D.C.

March 20, 2007 (Washington, D.C.) - The Washington, D.C. office of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP continues to expand its Government Affairs practice with the addition of Mac Campbell as a partner.  Campbell joins McKenna Long & Aldridge after more than six years as a tax counsel to U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-ARK), a member of the Senate Finance Committee.  The addition of Campbell further solidifies McKenna’s position as a national leader in the area of government affairs and strengthens the firm’s capabilities for clients needing these services.

Campbell brings additional veteran tax-writing committee experience and capacity to McKenna’s Government Affairs Group.  He joins a tax-policy team that already includes partner Joe Dowley, who served as chief counsel of the House Ways and Means Committee during the tax-reform era of the 1980s and is a long-time representative of clients with tax, trade, and healthcare issues within the jurisdictions of the House and Senate committees.

“Mac’s experience as a senior staff to an important member on one of the key committees of Congress is invaluable,” said Dowley.  “His strong grasp of current issues; familiarity with the budget and tax-writing process with Congress, particularly in the Senate; and solid reputation with key figures on Capitol Hill, make him an ideal addition to our team.  We believe Mac is well-suited to assist our clients as the new Democratic-controlled Congress adopts pay-as-you-go measures that will inevitably involve revenue raising proposals.”

Campbell is a 1998 graduate of the Arkansas School of Law and received a master’s in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2003.  During his years with Senator Lincoln, his duties included involvement with tax legislation, employee benefits, banking and finance matters, economic development efforts, and insurance matters. He has been involved in oversight investigations conducted by the Finance Committee.

“Mac helps us bring additional value and insights to clients regarding a variety of government affairs needs at both the federal and state levels,” said Gordon Giffin, Chair of the firm’s Public Policy and International Department and former U.S. Ambassador to Canada under President Clinton.  “He will greatly complement our team, which already includes former Representative George W. “Buddy” Darden (D-GA) and Marcia Hale, former White House Director of Intergovernmental Affairs under President Clinton.”

Commenting on his new appointment, Campbell said, “It is an exciting time for me to be joining McKenna Long & Aldridge, as the tax practice continues to grow in terms of both clients and range of services available.”
