PROFILE

Robert Schuda is a partner in McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP Los Angeles office. He practices in the area of environmental counseling and litigation. At MLA, Bob has represented clients in matters involving underground storage tanks, groundwater and soil remediation, environmental planning, hazardous waste management, the Clean Air Act, and pesticide registration and data protection.

Prior to joining MLA, Bob practiced law as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard. He served as the lead attorney responsible for Coast Guard compliance with the Clean Air Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Toxic Substances Control Act, the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. He also managed Coast Guard involvement at approximately 30 RCRA and CERCLA sites nationwide. He defended Coast Guard interests in various federal and state forums, advised clients on federal and state requirements nation-wide and worked closely with federal agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration and the Department of Defense to contribute to the development of national environmental policy.

Bob has contributed to the TSCA Handbook (Government Institutes, Fourth Edition, 2006), and the Environmental Law Handbook (Government Law Institutes, Sixteenth Edition, 2003). He frequently speaks on environmental compliance and enforcement issues.

Before commencing his practice, Bob served as a Coast Guard operations and law enforcement officer, conducting anti-narcotics, search and rescue and humanitarian missions in the Caribbean Sea. Among his significant achievements is participating in search operations associated with the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in January 1986.

Bob earned the Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, among other decorations, during his service.
