PROFILE

Kevin Slattum is a partner in McKenna Long & Aldridge's Los Angeles office. He joined the firm in 1998 after serving as a summer associate in 1997.

Kevin has practiced in the areas of government contracts, white collar crime, the False Claims Act and commercial litigation. He has extensive experience with requests for equitable adjustment and contract claims against the government in the administrative courts, as well as prime-subcontractor disputes in the federal and state courts. In particular, Kevin has broad experience with conflicts arising in the context of NASA and commercial satellite procurements, A-76 outsourcing issues, service contract issues and high technology manufacturing issues. He also has extensive experience counseling clients and obtaining cost recovery in FAR cost allowability, TINA and CAS issues. In addition, Kevin’s practice has focused on defending clients in white collar crime cases and assisting clients facing suspension or debarment from government contracting. He served as the lead associate in gaining the dismissal of charges brought by the government in a major white collar crime case involving RICO, conspiracy, mail fraud and wire fraud in the context of small business (SBA) government contracting. Kevin has significant experience in defending cases brought under the False Claims Act (FCA), including qui tam cases which arose in the context of environmental remediation and testing as well as major weapons systems development. His commercial litigation experience includes matters relating to trade secrets, contract disputes, UCC issues, and unfair business practices. Kevin has also counseled numerous clients on compliance and investigation issues.

Kevin received his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Pepperdine University School of Law, where he served as an Associate Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review and was a quarterfinalist in the Dalsimer Moot Court competition. His article, Is the United States v. Olin Decision Full of Sound and Fury Signifying Nothing?: The Future of Retroactive Liability of CERCLA, was published in Volume 25 of the Pepperdine Law Review. In addition, he won Am Jur awards in Corporations, Commercial Law Sales and Real Estate Transactions and received the American Bankruptcy Institute Medallion.

Before attending law school, Kevin was the English Department Chairperson and coached volleyball at Crespi High School in Encino, California. He also served as an assistant Basketball coach at Thousand Oaks High School in Thousand Oaks, California. His Master's thesis at William & Mary explored the artistic significance of detective fiction to the American novelist William Faulkner.
