PROFILE
Jim Manley represents parties in high exposure product liability, toxic tort and commercial lawsuits throughout the southeastern United States. Jim's clients include domestic and foreign corporations operating in the manufacturing, retail, environmental, construction and insurance industries. Jim has won jury defense verdicts as lead trial counsel in wrongful death and product liability lawsuits and has served on a national level in the defense of automotive door latch related catastrophic injury cases. Jim serves as appellate counsel in state and federal courts in Georgia.
Jim was recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer Rising Star by Law & Politics and Atlanta Magazine in both 2005 and 2006. Jim is AV® rated by Martindale-Hubbell®.
REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
- Successfully tried cases on behalf of Ford Motor Company in state and federal courts throughout Georgia, and in Texas and Florida.
- Successfully tried cases on behalf of Otis Elevator Company, medical professionals and extended care nursing facilities in state courts in Georgia.
- Assisted in the creation of a national litigation discovery program (for a Fortune 100 company) used to organize computer code and manage more than 200,000 pages of internal documentation subject to production in litigation filed across the country.
- Successfully represented both Fortune 100 companies and professionals in federal and state appellate courts.
- Represented automobile manufacturers before federal agencies, such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
- Counseled manufacturers in non-litigation settings regarding potential hazards and liabilities associated with new products, including warranty and warnings related issues
COMMUNITY AND CIVIC INVOLVEMENT
- Jim serves on the Board of Trustees of the United Methodist Children's Home of North Georgia. He and his wife Jill are active members of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, in Decatur Georgia. Jim served as Regional Coordinator for the Georgia High School Mock Trial Competition 2001-04 and has served on the Law Day Committee for the Atlanta Bar. Jim is an active member of the Product Liability and Litigation Sections of the State Bar of Georgia and of the Defense Research Institute.
