PROFILE

Patrick McGeehan practices in all areas of commercial real estate transactions, primarily commercial real estate and mezzanine finance transactions, with a particular expertise in complex problem loan workouts and restructurings of both mortgage loans and mezzanine loans. In addition, he is the primary transactional attorney in the firm's privatization practice, advising both governmental bodies and private companies in privatization transactions across a wide range of project types.

Patrick has focused on the area of problem loan workouts, primarily representing lenders, since he joined the firm in 1987. He regularly represents investment banks and a range of other financial institutions and lenders in the negotiated, structured resolution of non-performing loans, as well as in coordinating the enforcement of loan documents and the exercise of lender remedies. Patrick also represents special servicers in the resolution of problem loans in CMBS settings. With a deep background in commercial real estate transactions and finance, Patrick also regularly negotiates and closes front-end transactions, including complex mortgage financings, mezzanine financings, and acquisitions and dispositions of real estate, frequently handling risk-capital financings to insolvent or troubled projects. Patrick also regularly advises financial institutions in connection with portfolios of problem loans and distressed real estate. In 1996, Patrick lived and worked in Paris, France, on assignment by the firm, working for an investment banking client in bid transactions to acquire portfolios of defaulted French mortgage debt from French banking institutions.

In his privatization practice, Patrick has represented governmental entities and private companies in the privatization of water treatment and distribution systems, wastewater treatment facilities, military housing and state park lodging and amenities. Patrick was a key advisor to the City of Atlanta in its water system privatization, the largest project of its kind to date in the United States.

Patrick graduated with a B.A. from Emory University in 1977, and graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in 1983, where he served as Articles Editor of the Northwestern University Law Review.
