PROFILE

Ed Sims is a senior counsel with McKenna Long & Aldridge.  He focuses his practice on independent investigations, compliance and corporate governance. He has served as head of the firm's governmental affairs group, solving the legal and governmental problems of clients and structuring both corporate and public financing transactions. Ed Sims' background is in litigation involving securities fraud and accounting malpractice.

Ed was co-founder of two banks and was a founder and former chairman of the board of First Capital Bank, Atlanta, (NASDAQ:FCBX) where he continues to serve on the board of directors and as a member of the audit committee. He served as a director of GoodWorks International, a consulting firm chaired by former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young. Ed also served in the U. S. Navy, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander (USNR).

Ed clerked for The Honorable Sidney O. Smith, Jr., U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.


COMMUNITY AND CIVIC INVOLVEMENT
  • Ed served as Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia under Governor Zell Miller from 1990 to 1995. He helped direct the then-Governor Bill Clinton's 1992 primary campaign in Georgia and the Clinton-Gore 1992 general election campaign in Georgia. He has served as co-finance chair of the Democratic Governors' Association and as finance chair of the Association of State Democratic Chairs. He served on the Democratic National Committee from 1990 to 1995 and as a DNC Trustee in 1992. In 2000, he served as a co-chair of the Gore-Lieberman campaign in Georgia.
