PROFILE

Bikram Bandy is a partner in the Litigation Department of McKenna Long & Aldridge's Washington, DC office.  Bikram represents clients in large-scale and complex litigation matters covering a broad range of areas, including toxic tort, environmental, products liability, insurance, constitutional law, and commercial contract disputes.  Bikram also has significant experience in representing clients on appellate matters before state and federal courts across the country.

Bikram specializes in cases that involve complex scientific and medical issues, where he often works with medical, environmental, and damages experts in helping them present complicated technical testimony in a manner that can be easily understood by judges and lay juries.  In addition, Bikram works closely with consulting experts to identify weaknesses in opposing experts’ testimony.

In addition to his litigation work, Bikram has significant expertise in complex records retention, spoliation, and e-discovery issues.  Bikram regularly counsels clients on how they can implement best records management practices to reduce the risk of litigation sanctions and spoliation claims, while minimizing the time and expense of responding to discovery.  Among other things, he counsels clients on implementing proper litigation hold procedures, developing effective records retention policies, improving their litigation readiness, and responding to recent amendments to federal and state court rules regarding discovery of electronic data.

Bikram also maintains an active pro bono practice, where he has represented numerous low-income tenants in landlord-tenant disputes in the District of Columbia and has provided pro bono representation to criminal defendants in both trial and appellate courts in the DC-area.

Prior to joining the firm, Bikram served as a law clerk to the Honorable James P. Salmon of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.

Bikram received his J.D. degree with honors from the George Washington University Law School in 1998, where he was a member of the George Washington University Law Review. Bikram earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Duke University in 1995.
