PROFILE

Tony Balloon focuses his practice on general corporate counseling, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance issues.

Tony has experience in a variety of corporate transactions, including domestic and international contract negotiation and acquisitions. Tony also has counseled clients in implementing corporate governance and compliance programs that meet the requirements of recent regulatory and corporate governance reforms, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and revisions to the United States Organizational Sentencing Guidelines. Tony also has assisted clients in need of special independent review/investigation services.

Tony has represented corporate clients in a diverse set of industries, including defense/aerospace, telecommunications, transaction processing, and technology consulting. In addition to his corporate counseling experience, Tony has provided assistance in two cases heard in the United States Supreme Court:

  • Lapides vs. Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, 535 U.S. 613 (2002)
  • Henson vs. Syngenta Crop Protection, 537 U.S. 28 (2002)

Tony is also a Fellow of the Goizueta Directors Institute at Emory University in Atlanta, which is a specialized forum in which directors and officers of publicly traded companies meet to discuss and debate significant corporate governance issues and regulatory policy.

Prior to joining McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, Tony clerked for the Honorable Frank M. Hull of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. While in law school, Tony was a Robert W. Woodruff Fellow in Law, served as an Articles Editor for the Emory Law Journal, and was elected to membership in the Order of the Coif. In June 2002, Tony was selected by the Fulton County Daily Report as a lawyer "On the Rise" in the Atlanta legal profession.
