PROFILE

Raymond Friedlob focuses his practice in federal securities, corporate law, federal administrative law, leveraged acquisitions, mergers, transportation, and taxation, including all aspects of capital formation and finance. He has guided clients in complex corporate and tax transactions primarily in the areas of manufacturing, technology, telecommunications and financial services.

Ray has served as a director and chairman of the Audit Committee of a major publicly traded corporation (with a market capitalization at its high of $30 billion). He limits his public policy practice to complex engagements with real legal components and political policy challenges because of his involvement in both practice areas.

Ray has represented clients in tax matters in connection with securing Internal Revenue Code Section 333 matters regarding corporate liquidations; non-profit corporations in connection with unrelated business income tax issues, and state departments of transportation with respect to major national security projects and transportation reauthorization legislation; and sports stadium aviation matters. Ray has been a consultant to the FAA, a major metropolitan transit authority and state transportation department. He has represented a major U.S. airport in a national SEC enforcement action and later in federal legislative matters.

Ray also led the first major modification of an economic development conveyance of a military base closing, has represented the Securities Investor Protection Corporation and has been a Special Trustee for SIPC. He has been a special officer and receiver of the U.S. District Court and SEC in connection with failed investment advisory firms and mutual funds and a special master in connection with a complex international commodities trading partnership. He recently served as a Special Master on a complex commodities trading case for the United States District Court.

Ray's practice also includes a great deal of involvement in political matters at both the state and federal level. After receiving his Master of Laws Degree in Taxation, he returned to Denver to practice law, but maintained, established and developed many friendships in Washington through extensive national political involvement. His positions included Deputy Western Campaign Director for the Reagan-Bush campaign, senior western consultant for Dole-Kemp and other positions, including the National Public Lands Advisory Council by the Reagan Administration and the first Board of Directors of the National Forest Foundation by the Bush (41) Administration. He also served as Chair of the Tax Advisory Commission and Judicial Selection Commission of several U.S. Senators.

Ray is also a faculty member at the University of Denver Institute for Public Policy and teaches courses in the area. He has served as a member of the faculty of the University of Denver College of Law and was a founder of the Tax L.L.M. Program in the College of Law.

Ray has been recognized as a “Colorado Super Lawyer” by the publishers of Law and Politics.
