PROFILE

Rosalind Rubens Newell focuses her practice on governmental issues at the state and local level. She provides McKenna Long & Aldridge's clients with integral insight into affairs involving the exchange between government and private enterprise. Her proficiency in local government brings additional balance to the firm's governmental affairs team, which includes attorneys and advisors with a variety of backgrounds in legal and governmental/public policy issues.

Prior to joining McKenna Long & Aldridge, she practiced for almost 18 years in the City of Atlanta's Legal Department, most recently serving as Deputy City Attorney of the Commercial Transactions Practice Group. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing financial, land use, zoning and procurement matters, commercial transactions, public finance transactions and real estate. During her tenure, Ms. Newell also developed an expertise in Section 1983, Title VII and other constitutional law litigation. She also worked with the Mayor and City Council on a wide array of legal and policy matters.

Ms. Newell formerly served as law clerk to the Honorable William H. Alexander, Superior Court of Fulton County from 1986-1987. She was also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Social Work at Clark Atlanta University from 1992 through 2002.

Ms. Newell has been a continuing legal education presenter for the ABA and ICLE in Georgia, and a continuing education presenter on law and ethics for social workers, professional counselors and licensed marriage and family therapists.
