PROFILE

Ross Hyslop is a Partner in the San Diego office of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, where he specializes in the defense of businesses and individuals in complex commercial and business litigation, including consumer class and employment class actions (both opt-in and opt-out actions), business torts, intellectual property, trade secrets, fraud, negligence, professional liability, unfair competition, false advertising, and contract claims.  He has represented Fortune 100, 500, and 1000 companies and leading international law firms in defense of multi-million and multi-billion dollar cases.  His clients have included major defense contractors, banks, mortgage brokers and securitizers, insurance companies, law firms, manufacturers, trade organizations, real estate developers, global retailers, technology companies, nationwide health care organizations, hospitals, shopping centers, and corporate executives, among others.  Ross has also led and conducted internal and/or independent investigations on behalf of major companies, and advised special litigation committee members associated with the defense of derivative and shareholder litigation.

Ross’ practice has also included the representation of businesses and individuals involved in trade secret and confidentiality litigation, such as established businesses seeking to protect their trade secrets and confidential information as well as start-up businesses and founding individuals accused of misappropriating trade secrets and confidential information of their former employer.  He has also litigated restrictive non-compete, non-solicitation, and anti-raiding agreements both from the standpoint of those trying to enforce them as well as those trying to defeat them.

An experienced civil litigator, Ross has tried class and individual actions, and has argued appellate cases at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the California Court of Appeal for the Fourth Appellate District.

He is admitted in all California courts, as well as the Southern, Central, and Eastern United States District Courts, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal.  He has also been admitted and appeared pro hac vice in numerous federal and state court actions, including in Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

At the firm, Ross leads the San Diego office’s litigation department, and serves on numerous committees throughout the firm.  He also serves as the Hiring Partner for the San Diego office and as a member of the San Diego office’s Recruiting Committee.
