Real Estate Litigation

McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) has a successful track record of litigating, mediating, and arbitrating complex real estate matters. In 2009, 17 attorneys with Brown Winfield Canzoneri Abram Inc. joined the MLA Los Angeles office, expanding our real estate practice group to 65 attorneys, with more than 30 in California.

With the addition of these highly skilled professionals, our real estate team represents years of experience handling all aspects of real estate litigation, including commercial lease disputes, eminent domain and other land valuation matters, disputes regarding property management contracts, financing of acquisition and development of real property, foreclosures, lease enforcement actions, restrictive covenant matters, land use entitlement, CEQA and administrative actions and appeals involving all manner of permitting and real estate entitlement proceedings.

If necessary, our clients have access to our real estate, environmental and other specialist attorneys with whom we team closely to provide strategic solutions when in court, or avoiding litigation if possible.

Members of the Real Estate Practice Group are involved in all aspects of litigation including resolution of disputes involving office buildings, commercial retail and shopping centers, railroads, redevelopment projects, apartment and other multi-family projects.  Our partners have dealt with all aspects of real estate and business, as well as representation of government or those dealing with government. We have acted as lead counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of litigation matters including real property valuation, business torts, civil rights defense, municipal tax, construction defect, municipal tort liability, contract disputes, and land use disputes. We have argued cases before the California Court of Appeal and the California Supreme Court.

Our clients include major homebuilders, commercial and industrial real estate developers, and railroads. We have business litigation experience that includes the successful representation of clients in several multi-million dollar matters. Several of our partners have been named a Southern California Super Lawyer, an annual listing recognizing top attorneys, in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

We have in-depth experience involving the prosecution and defense of fraud and breach of contract actions, judicial foreclosure actions, specific performance actions, commercial landlord-tenant litigation, easements, CC&R litigation, and real estate broker and appraiser litigation. We have tried more than 75 cases to completion through court, jury trial, or binding arbitration.
