Experience
John Shimada is Of Counsel in the Los Angeles office of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP. He is a member of the Litigation Team, where his focus is toxic torts and environmental litigation.
John has over 25 years of experience in product liability, toxic tort and environmental litigation, and has extensive experience in handling mass toxic tort lawsuits. The product liability matters he has handled ranged from consumer products to heavy equipment. The toxic tort matters he has handled have involved various claimed injuries arising from a wide variety of substances including asbestos, mold, pesticides, metals and hydrocarbons. As such, he is very experienced not only with the complex legal issues involved, but also in the medical and technical issues which are critical to the successful defense of such matters.
His experience also includes environmental cost recovery litigation in both state and federal courts under the Federal and California Superfund laws, as well as under the Clean Water Act. In addition, he has litigated matters arising under California's Proposition 65 and under the California Environmental Quality Act. His environmental law experience includes negotiating environmental remediation projects with regulators, and assisting his clients with the oversight of such remediation projects.
John has also litigated a broad range of commercial and real property matters including wild fire and commercial property fires, construction defect and landslide litigation, and hotel leases.
