Experience
John McJunkin's practice focuses on loan workouts, business bankruptcies and commercial litigation. Mr. McJunkin works extensively with creditors in protecting their rights during workouts, litigation, foreclosures, and bankruptcy. As part of his work for his creditor clients, Mr. McJunkin regularly negotiates and documents workout arrangements of complex lending relationships.
In addition to his practice in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland, Mr. McJunkin regularly coordinates bankruptcy representation and related litigation in jurisdictions across the nation.
Mr. McJunkin's commercial litigation experience includes the prosecution and defense of numerous lawsuits and arbitrations arising out of disputes related to various lending issues as well as contractual matters, real estate disputes, franchise issues, title insurance matters and business torts. In particular, Mr. McJunkin has considerable experience litigating technology licensing issues, sales of assets and cash collateral matters in the context of Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcies.
Mr. McJunkin has been recognized as one of America's Leading Lawyers for Bankruptcy Litigation by Chambers USA. He has also been named a “Super Lawyer” in Virginia and the District of Columbia.

- Lead counsel for lender in contested foreclosure litigation at large high rise apartment complex subject to HUD rules and regulations.
- Lead counsel for secured lender sucessfully challenging cramdown plan of reorganization in Chapter 11 commercial real estate case.
- Lead counsel for senior secured lender in a converted Chapter 7 case involving $95 million in secured loans.
- Coordinated auction sale of going concern in Chapter 7 and litigated 506(c) and administrative claim issues related to operations of debtor.
- Lead U.S. counsel in the loan workout/restructuring of a multinational corporation with substantial assets in Argentina and Brazil.
- Negotiated treatment of $260 million in secured debt in a proposed pre-arranged plan of reorganization.
- Lead bankruptcy and litigation counsel on behalf of a securitized loan servicer on $300+ million in loans secured by commercial real estate in multiple states.
- Lead counsel for vendor financier in Chapter 11 cases of telecommunication companies around the country (California, Washington, D.C., New York, Colorado, Delaware, Arizona, and Virginia).
- Lead lender's counsel on numerous HUD-insured loans involving litigation and bankruptcy related to large apartment complexes in Virginia, Illinois, South Carolina, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia.
- Lead counsel for telecommunications manufacturer in connection with sale of updated telecommunication infrastructure system to Puerto Rican telecom company that filed Chapter 11.
- National coordinating counsel for bankruptcy matters for an international hotel franchising and management company.
