Experience
Robert (Bob) Schuda defends the interests of clients in a wide range of issues involving environmental law and policy, including groundwater and soil cleanup, environmental planning, hazardous waste management, air emissions, and pesticide registration and data protection. He also counsels clients on specific issues impacting California port communities.
Before joining McKenna Long & Aldridge, Mr. Schuda practiced law as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard, and was responsible for Clean Air Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act matters. He also managed Coast Guard involvement at dozens of contaminated hazardous substances sites nationwide.
Notable Engagements
- Defended a major aerospace defense contractor during the cleanup of a former nuclear and rocket testing facility overseen by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, including coordinating the cleanup with the Department of Energy and the National Aeronautic and Space Administration.
- Currently defends a port terminal in a lawsuit and a related California Attorney General investigation regarding alleged violations of California Proposition 65's environmental exposure warning requirements.
- Resolved an EPA enforcement action against a major pesticide retailer by developing a ground-breaking web-based industry-wide training program on "Pesticide Retailing and Environmental Compliance."
