Experience

Paul Hurdle heads the New Matter Intake and Conflicts group at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA).  In that role, he is responsible for compliance by the firm and its professionals with the applicable Rules of Professional Responsibility, including the rules regarding confidentiality, conflicts of interest and former clients.  Mr. Hurdle's group performs a wide range of support functions within the firm, including the approval of new matters, the preparation of engagement letters and conflict waivers, the review of professionals joining the firm, the adoption of best practices within the firm for compliance with applicable ethical requirements, and the training of firm personnel with respect to the foregoing. 

Mr. Hurdle is Senior Counsel in MLA's Real Estate Practice. His practice focuses on commercial real estate loan origination, securitization and servicing.

Mr. Hurdle has extensive experience representing originators, issuers, underwriters and servicers, rating agencies and trustees in commercial mortgage backed securities (CMBS) loan origination, securitization and master servicing, with an emphasis on defeasance and assumption transactions.

Mr. Hurdle's practice deals with the corporate, securities, bankruptcy, tax and UCC issues related to CMBS lending, securitization and servicing. He has represented residential mortgage backed securities (RMBS) originators, issuers, underwriters and servicers in RMBS securitization and servicing transactions, including the securitization of servicing advances.

Mr. Hurdle also has experience in CMBS special servicing, including loan workouts, modifications and foreclosures.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Hurdle was in-house counsel with Wachovia Corporation for five years, where he supported the real estate banking group, the Commercial Real Estate Finance Group and the Structured Products Servicing Group.

Mr. Hurdle was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps during the Viet Nam conflict.
